Some important places in Accra are the National Museum, Ghana Academy of Arts and Science and the National Archives of Ghana. Christianborg Castle and Jamestown are other attractions. Fort Amsterdam is one among many forts on the coastline of Ghana. The ruins of Fort Amsterdam are situated atop a hill close to the town of Kormantse. You can always find a guide here who will tell you about the history of the fort. While visiting Kakum National Park you can walk along one of the ten canopy walks in the world. Here you will find wide variety of species along with 40 species of large mammals such as forest elephants, seven primates, red river hogs, and bongos. Swimmers prefer Busuam with its long white sand beach and surfers enjoy some of the coast’s best waves on the beaches of Dixcove.
Kumasi is the capital of the Ashanti kingdom in Ghana. This is a cosmopolitan city with a good transportation network and is regarded as the cultural cradle of the nation.
The cuisines of Ghana involve diverse traditional dishes from each ethnic group, tribe and clan. Mostly food in Ghana is made up of a starchy portion. Cooked rice is the most common food in Ghana. Some popular dishes of Ghana are; waakye (combination of rice and beans), gari (made from cassava), kokonte (crispy preparation made from dried cassava chips) and fufu (made from pounded cassava and plantain or pounded cocoyam).
